Why You Should Remove Extras and Add_Ons when Shipping

DATE: 03/31/10

Customizations can enhance the aesthetic appeal of your car and add value to it. However, if you’re interested in shipping cars, those accessories and add-ons aren’t assets, they’re liabilities. That’s why car shipping companies recommend you remove all exterior accessories from your vehicle before you ship it.

But why is it important to remove these car accessories? There are a few reasons.

• Vehicle add-ons can get damaged during shipping—You don’t want to run the risk of your car accessories getting damaged when the vehicle is being loaded, transported, or unloaded. A simple shift or a slight bump could cause the accessory to get damaged. That’s why we recommend removing any removable accessories from your car.

• Exterior accessories may get lost during shipping—If the vehicle shifts during shipping, the specialized add-ons could potentially fall off and get misplaced during shipping. This is rare, but it can happen. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

• Vehicle add-ons take up extra space—Your vehicle may be sharing space with other vehicles and other shipments. Accessories that stick out from the vehicle cause your shipment to take up more space, and this could lead to higher shipping rates and an overall inconvenience for shipping. Removing accessories from your vehicle is typically fairly easy, and it’s well worth the time it takes to do it. Amerijet has been shipping cars of all types for more than 30 years. Whether you’re looking to ship a small car, a large truck, or any other type of vehicle, we can help. Learn more about our car shipping services by visiting www.amerijet.com today.
