Every country has its own set of Customs rules, regulations, and restrictions. Some countries prohibit or restrict importation of certain commodities due to an adverse trade balance, a desire to protect local industries, religious or cultural reasons, etc. Import restrictions may take the form of tariffs, surcharges, deposits, and/or quotas; and limitations on the use of foreign currency to purchase imported goods. All Customs-related charges associated with the shipment are the consignee's responsibility.
The U.S. State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs advises exporters in the U.S. to contact their destination country's embassy in Washington, DC, or a consulate elsewhere in the U.S. for details of that country's Customs requirements. Click for more State Department guidance.

Shippers importing goods to the U.S. should be aware of U.S. efforts to curb importation of counterfeit and pirated goods. For more information, visit the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative's Web site.
